Coaching and Somatics (TRE)

I am delighted to offer coaching (Relational Dynamics, Brain and Behaviour change) * and TRE (therapeutic / neurogenic tremoring) for individuals and group work as part of my practice. Both coaching and TRE can be held in person, or remotely via zoom. These practices work individually, but also in compliment with each other in support of human growth and wellbeing. Please get in touch to find out more or to book a session/ join a group.

Update April 2021 ; I am currently holding a weekly TRE group class online on a Monday and Tuesday morning. Please get in touch to book your place. More classes added soon.

What is TRE? (Trauma or Tension release exercises)

Shaking is the natural way to release tension and return the body to its normal homeostasis. It is a primal impulse to a stressful situation. Animals naturally shake to release tension after a life-threatening event. You may also have noticed your dog shaking when he is nervous or excited!

Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (or TRE®) is a simple yet innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Created by Dr. David Berceli, PhD, TRE safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

What can TRE help with? Reported Benefits Include

Less worry and anxiety, Reduced symptoms of PTSD, more energy and endurance, improved interpersonal relationships, less workplace stress, better sleep, less relationship conflict, reduced muscle and back pain.

Why TRE?

Neurogenic shaking has been part of my personal practice for over 30 years now! It has been a lifeline to me throughout. TRE offers a framework for understanding and accessing this most natural of mammalian responses to nervous system activation; shaking! and I am delighted to be able to offer it to others. It can be safely practiced and adapted for most people, and once learned can be done on your own. (For deeper work and some emotional or physical issues, it is advisable to continue to do TRE under supervision so that it remains safe for the individual. I can advise accordingly)

Here is a wonderful video of someone using TRE to find deeper connection with their body and with historic patterns of holding. There are many more videos online! (This person is living with Ankylosing Spondilytis).

What is Coaching?

Relational Dynamics is an approach to leadership and life which draws on theories and tools from a wide and eclectic range of sources including person-centred coaching, psychology, emotional intelligence, NLP and contemporary research into leadership and modern day communications.

Put simply … relational dynamics is the art of interaction with self and others.

Coaching is ideal for personal development, overcoming ‘stuckness’, dealing with issues and challenges, increasing confidence, changing and/or developing direction.

The approach I use utilises the GROW model as well as a number of other coaching models, alongside training in brain and behaviour change via applied neuroscience. All of my work is trauma informed. With a range of techniques and approaches available, I can offer a tailored and nuanced approach to individuals seeking to work with me. My particular interest is in working with clients who recognise Neuro-divergent conditions in themselves – particularly ADHD – where challenges may be experienced around executive functioning (planning and organising, impulsivity, memory issues etc.) and anxiety.

*It is important to clarify here that this work is not ABA (applied behaviour analysis). This coaching and behaviour change work is never undertaken without consent and the express request of the client. The aim of my work is to facilitate the client to identify strategies that they can implement safely for themselves; to be more aware of self and to feel increasingly empowered to act in a way that honours their neurology.

I operate under the framework of the Social Model of Disability, whilst recognising and honouring that some people will find their own makeup inherently disabling. All of my work seeks to expand knowledge around, and precipitate a celebration of, human difference in all its forms.

This work is not counselling, although it may touch on some elements that seem similar. I offer a chemistry chat to new clients so that we can sense if the working dynamic feels like a useful fit for your needs. If the scope of the issues that a person may want to address is beyond my skills set or competence, I may advise a referral on to more specialist support.

You can read more about my qualifications in this area here. Please do get in touch if you’d like to know more!
